The clan didn't need her; that much was obvious. At only 22 moons this lithe grey she cat was already in the Elder's den all by herself. Her mother ended up dropping over the falls less than a moon ago and honestly the idiot hadn't even noticed. She just assumed her mother was on some 'very important' trip and was having a good old time somewhere by herself. Oh well. Guavafrost rolled onto her back and stretched out one foreleg in a pose almost like Superman. She didn't mind being alone in the den, sure it got lonely, but sometimes Foxstep would come and visit her and that in itself was a gift. She made sure to keep a little store of leaves and pretty rocks in the corner next to her nest so that she could treat him every time he came. They really were the best of friends. Guavafrost was so happy that he had Snookpelt she was pretty and treated him well. The young cat didn't care hardly at all that he wasn't with her. She never even considered taking on a mate, or having him love her. Well he did love her, she loved him, she loved her mom, and her mom loved her. It was all the same to the little grey she cat.
Flipping onto her stomach Guavafrost stood and marched over to her store of leaves. " Mmm, with un tood I eat." She mumbled to herself, eyes narrowing as she concentrated hard on the three leaves in front of her. Finally she settled on a small, very light green leaf. The young she cat picked it up in her mouth and settled into her den to munch on it. It was still very moist and tasted almost earthy. It had an almost sour under tone and a very crisp texture that caused her tongue to curl slightly. A purr rumbled deep in her throat - the only thing that she could do that sounded normal, and her tail twitched ever so slowly.
Swallowing the last of her leaf Guavafrost sighed contentedly. Though she was lonely at times she enjoyed being able to lay around and not have to worry. She rarely left the den; the whispers and awkward looks others gave her made her pelt prickle uncomfortably so she wouldn't leave the den save for in the company of her best friend Foxstep. She was glad he was so nice and friendly. It was no wonder he had so many friends. He was practically a cat of Starclan. He was powerful and wonderful and she couldn't help but be in awe of him. Reminiscing on the days when she was younger a slow smile overtook her face. She remembered always wanting to be like him. Everything he told her to do she would do. She wanted to be him; he was amazing and she was in awe of his skills that she knew she would never have.

standing tall at a simple thirty-four moons, foxface was as still useless as he'd ever been. he was born from beauty, that much was true - he was oblivious to the fact that he wasn't good at anything. it showed through his name, foxface, yet he went on living in calm, bewildered peace. he was scared of the cliffs he lived so close to, he was terrified of the noises insects made, and he was so bad at hunting that he was never sent on any patrols.
there was foxface, dumb and beautiful. there was guavafrost; just plain beautiful.
what did snookpelt mean to him? if you asked him directly, he'd look sheepish and tell you something sappy and stupid like everything, but if he really thought about it - which he never was fond of doing and never would be - he wouldn't be able to tell you. did he even love snookpelt? foxface had no clue. he had fallen in love with her because she reminded him something of guavafrost, but now, he was spending more time away from snookpelt and so much time with guavafrost.
she needed him. she was alone, her mother was dead, foxface had no clue where her father could be; she needed someone for moral support and hell, if he wasn't there for her like he'd always been, he'd end up throwing himself off of a cliff too because of the factoring guilt. she needed him and he was going to be there no matter how much it hurt to look at her.
olive eyes blink at the wall of the elder's den, confused and clouded a bit. he hears the soft voice of guavafrost on the inside, contemplating leaves like she does, and he walks in just as she picks one of to swallow.

Looking up at Foxface a bright smile lit up the face of the young idiot. She let a purr rumble out of her maw before she stood up and rubbed her face against the ginger tom's. " Eye Fokfaze," She said slowly in greeting after running her tongue over his face. She turned and walked back over to her little hoard of items, picking up a pretty green rock that had darker veins of an almost purple color running through them. When in the light the small rock seemed to practically glow and was almost mesmerizing. Guavafrost turned with the rock in her mouth and padded swiftly over to Foxface. She set the present in front of him; a broad smile on her face as she waited for his reaction, " I gawt yew dis." She fluffed up her chest a bit, proud with herself for finding something so outstanding and nice to look at. Foxface would surely like it.
The lithe grey she cat swiveled her half working ears in his direction, eyes concentrated so she could pick up what she said, it was hard sometimes but she made due and was happy to force herself to understand for his sake. They were best friends! She was so happy to see him that her whole pelt was practically vibrating with joy; this was what she looked forward to everyday. Guavafrost - tired of waiting - turned and padded back to her nest, laying down on the outermost edge and motioning for Foxface to come join her. She loved laying next to him and listening to him as he spoke, his deep voice resonating through his skin and into her body. It was nice to feel connected with another when so much of the clan scorned and ridiculed her.
The training she had done with Foxface still stuck with her as best it could with her rather sad memory, but she loved to show him new (maybe not that successful) moves that she made up during her times of daydreaming. She was upset at not being accepted by the clan, but she had her mom and Foxface so nothing else really mattered to her. She knew she was slow, and she knew that there wasn't anything she could do about either her deafness or her speech impediment, but she tried her hardest and that should be all that mattered to anyone.

"hi, miss," mews foxface as he steps to greet her. she purrs as she rubs her face against his, tongue running against his fur in a sweet and familiar fashion. guavafrost turns, rummaging around in the special store that she keeps for her visitors - mostly him, but he doesn't mind a bit. he's kept every single rock she's given him, pretty and shiny and rough around the edges. he looks at them fondly from time to time, memories of beauty and love that swirl in his mind.
he momentarily forgets about snookpelt, lets himself be enveloped in the warmth and loving kindness that reverberates from guavafrost's good nature. ginger ears twitch as she presents a rock to him; one of the prettiest he's ever seen, green and amethyst and beautiful. it shines in the light that leaks from the entrance of the den, and a smile threatens to split his face.
guavafrost's ears swivel to pick up on his words, concentration etched onto her face. he blinks before responding, "wow, guava, it's beautiful - i love it." he doesn't think she caught onto his words because she's turned around again and waddled over to her nest, but like most things, he doesn't mind much. her tail motions for him to come sit down and he does, fancied with the idea.
foxface fits himself in behind her, calmly licking the fur along the top of her head. he says it slow this time, words of encouragement, "i love the rock, miss, it's gorgeous."

Guavafrost felt the vibrations of his words echo through her body, traveling into her side and slowly spreading through her body, running through until it made it to the very tips of her toes, tail, and ears. Even her nose tingled as she soaked up what he was saying with her entire being. A loud purr burst from her chest, threatening to almost split her in half from the sheer magnitude of them. They echoed around the little den and bounced back to her ears, far fainter than they may be to a cat with better hearing. " Tank yew Fokfaze, I gawt et juss por yew." A wide toothy grin took over her face and she twined her tail happily with his, allowing her small lithe frame to lean against him more masculine one, their furs intermingling as their bodies shared heat and happiness.
The little gray cat drew her tongue along the fur on Foxface's chest, his scents and flavors were so familiar. She'd known him for so long she felt he was practically an extension on herself. They understood each other so well - or well he understood her more or less. He knew to talk slow enough for her to get it and was sure to be there for her every moment he wasn't with Snookpelt. Snookpelt! " Fokfaze, 'ow iz yew nd Nookpell?" Guavafrost purred happily at the thought of the other pretty grey cat. She was very nice even though they didn't talk much.
Her wide curious eyes looked up into Foxface's handsome face. She loved being around him. He was the only one besides her mother who loved her. They were so close and she adored him. He was like her savior! She worshiped the ground he walked on and was almost always close behind wherever he should travel. Or so she used to be before she was condemned to the elder den. She wasn't happy with that, but she would still follow Foxface if the opportunity arose, but mostly her time was spent sitting in the den and singing or humming little tunes to herself. The only times she ever really ventured out alone was when she wanted to find presents for the wonderful Foxface or anyone else who was kind enough to pay her a visit during her long and boring days filled with nothing but herself.

another loud purr erupted from the she-cat's throat, warming the heart of foxface with the sweetness of the notion. a softer - but still equal in the sheer gravitational pull of love - purr rumbled from the roots of his very soul, bright eyes closing so he could lay down and relax next to his best friend. "you got it just for me? that's pretty special... thank you."
happiness played a song to his soul as he stretched out further, pressing close into the warmth of guavafrost's pelt. another familiar motion crossed him; smooth, soft licks across his chest. the sound of his purr increased in magnitude, nudging his nose faintly against the grey she-cat's ear. foxface had been with her for as long as he could remember - he knows every sound, music to his heart, every beautiful little expression. they know each other inside and out, from the tip of their toes to the very top of their ears, and he couldn't be happier than he was right now.
snookpelt.
how could he forget? it had been such a nice moment, but he stiffened visibly at the mention of her name. guavafrost had purred yet once more when she mentioned her, a sign of happiness for him, but the feeling sunk in his stomach and sat like one very uncomfortable rock. he shifted slightly, not enough to mess up guavafrost's comfortable state, and swallowed audibly. "snook - oh, she's great, miss. she reminds me a lot of you; you're both my best friends."

Guavafrost purred and rubbed her head against Foxface, pleased that he had liked her gift. She loved making him happy and when he liked the things that she got him it made her poor little heart soar. The little grey she cat felt him stiffen as he spoke of his mate but she paid no mind to it, instead cuddling closer to the ginger tom and running her tongue through his fur in slow, comforting motions. " Mmm, das gewd." She drew her tongue along his cheek, bringing herself as close as possible so she could clearly feel the heat of his skin through their soft pelts. She was as content as could be with him by her side and nothing ever compared to when she was around him. He made her happy and brought a smile to her face even when she wasn't in the best mood. Her tail slowly edged over and intertwined tightly with his; her eyes sparkling as she looked up at the handsome tom. " Eye lub yew Fokfaze." She smiled wide as she nuzzled her nose against the fur in his neck, practically burrowing into him.
The two were merely a couple of drops in this ocean of a world. So insignificant in the long haul, but so important to each other. To each one the other was their whole ocean, not merely a handful of small drops that made no difference in the gist of things; they were each other's always and forever. Regardless of it the stupid little she cat realized it or not. Starclan had thrown them together and made it so they befriended each other, growing closer and closer as the moons passed. Guavafrost felt her heart swelling as she looked at Foxface, her eyes growing glassy and almost sad. She didn't know what this emotion was or why she felt so strongly for the other cat, only knew that being with him felt right.

something tugs on his heart, absolutely pulls and then explodes in something audible only to him, a drop of blue color in the once grey ocean of his life. it expands and flickers and then grows ever brighter like a firework, fading and then glowing in the darkest etch of a night sky, a beautiful and loud yet all so wonderful encounter that foxface had only seen once. the clearing had been damp with the previous rain in the early season of new-leaf, and the entire clan had watched as the sky exploded with the noisy beauty that they later learned were called fireworks.
his blood rushes loudly in his ears; he can barely feel the soft, familiar drag of guavafrost's fur on his face, but it's still there in a way he can't describe. the beauty of the situation stuns him into silence and he's just utterly shocked right now. her tongue runs across his fur and a purr tumbles out of his throat - he's more conscious of himself and his surroundings now, lets himself be content as he tucks himself further closer to guavafrost. he loves her so much, more than he could ever say, and he knows with the worst pangs of guilt that he has to tell snookpelt, call things off completely because he just doesn't really love her.
he never did.
