Eveningpaw uncurled herself from her nest, shaking bits of moss and sand out of her dark brown fur. A large yawn caused her mouth to open wide, revealing her rows of pearly white fangs and tiny salmon tongue. Her lids slid back to reveal her minty green orbs with a thin sliver of black settled precisely in the center. The lithe little bark colored she slithered her way out of her nest and into the opening next to the tree where the apprentices slept. She didn't spare a glance at the other sleeping bodies around her and instead chose a small patch of sunlight in which she carefully settled herself - the cool rays of the early morning shining down on her and slowly warming her cold fur. The night had been a chilly one - which was to be expected this time of year, and the early morning sun was a welcome relief.
A heavy sigh escaped her tiny frame as she thought back to her mentor. The stupid oaf of a tom hadn't started her training yet - not that he could teach her anything. He was as dumb as the rest of the males in the clan, let alone the world. She wouldn't listen to a word the fool tried to tell her. She knew what she needed to do and she didn't need a tom to help her. The mere thought made her scoff out loud, a tom?! Help her?! The idea was simply preposterous. Everyone knew she cats were born smart, whereas males - despite training thrust upon them - were doomed to remain useless for their whole existence. She almost pitied the poor imbeciles, but then again no. They didn't deserve her pity, she was so far above them that she needn't even turn their way when they dared to call her name. She was (in her own mind) the matriarch; she would one day become the sole leader that all the ladies she knew not only needed, but deserved. They didn't deserve to be treated as equals!
Another scoff escaped her parted maw at that idea. Why was it everyone thought that the two genders were the same? It was so obvious which were the better of the two. Which ones could run faster, climb higher, jump farther? The ladies that's who. The she cats ran the show and everyone knew it even though most refused to acknowledge that little fact. For Starclan's sake they birthed the future generation! No tom would be able to go through such pain as that and remain standing without some sort of terrible side affects. She cats reign supreme and that is all there is to it.

the plans of sleeping in late were deteriorated by the fact that the young tom was due for the dawn patrol. the sun barely hung in the sky when he woke up, startled green eyes blinking at his mentor with a yawn tumbling from his salmon mouth. the sky was cloudless but still dark in the early morning break, the sound of paws stumbled across the ground scraping through his eardrums. wet dew clung to the fur of his paws but it didn't matter to him, like most things didn't; he lived in swampclan, so he was used to the marshy ground being wet.
the bright-eyed tom was as unperturbed as always, enjoying the earthy, marshy smell of the all so familiar territory. humidity hung in the ear as he blinked, glancing at trees as they passed at a brisk rate, the song of a blue jay in his head. another yawn steps ungracefully out of his mouth, a small laugh from someone at the back of the patrol.
once the territory was deemed clean and remarked with the morning scent, they headed back to camp, slightly more awake than they had been. aware with his surroundings, his eye to foot coordination was much smoother, and he wasn't stumbling around any longer. he yawned again and once his senses cleared from their somewhat cloudy state, minkpaw went over to the fresh-kill pile to grab a morning bite.
he went sniffing around for something good - he brushed a brown-feathered bird out of the way, too usual for such a nice day. ah! there we go, a mink sounds nice. chuckling at the irony, he carried the creature of his namesake to a warm, sunny spot in the clearing. he looked around as he bit into the food at who was awake; the loiterers of the dawn patrol who hadn't gone back to their nests for a quick nap; a few apprentices and their mentors, ready for training; and the odd apprentice who hadn't started training. one cat came to his sight - an apprentice he didn't know all that well, just her name. thoughts of wonderful little mousepaw rolled into his mind and he smiled down at his food quickly, then sharply looked back.
minkpaw looked to her and gave a warm greeting. "mmm, hey-o, eveningpaw."

The sound of her name being poured out of the mouth of a tom caught her attention and she turned her head slowly towards him, eyes narrowed into tiny slits; ears flat against her skull. Oh. It was that stupid apprentice she saw mooning after Mousepaw all the time, whatever his name was. She didn't give a rat's tail about him and almost wasn't going to gift him with a response. Instead she turned her whole body in his direction, an ugly snarl plastered across her face; not caring to hide her disdain. She sat like that for a moment, allowing her obvious dislike of the stupid tom to sink into him before she finally graced him with a reply, " Do I know you? Probably not. I don't have time to spend talking to useless toms. You are such wastes of space it's a wonder that any effort is put into you. All you're able to do decently is make kits and even then you hardly do a single thing. Us ladies are obviously so far ahead of you. Both physically and mentally." Eveningpaw smirked, but her contempt was still visible behind her stony eyes. She always relished in the moment when being able to tear a new one into a tom who hadn't heard her tirade before. They all deserved to hear what she had to say - they needed to be as educated as mentally possible. Which obviously wasn't much. She scoffed quietly to herself. " What? You have nothing to say you idiot? You don't have any way of defend your poor, stupid self? It's not a shock really, you are the inferior gender after all."
Eveningpaw was taking no breaks for the tom to speak, her voice haughty and rude. She hated this tom just by looking at him. He would one day be her slave like the rest of them. " You're nothing but a useless fool. One day that will be made clear to you. The day I rule all the clans. The day I am the sole matriarch I will put you all in your place and everyone will see just how truly powerful I am. Not even Starclan can stop me. I am almighty and will one day rule the world. But you won't ever understand that. You're too big of an idiot." And as quickly as it began her rant stopped. She batted her eyelashes flirtatiously and winked before drawing her tongue across her paw and bringing it down over her ear, all the while keeping a flirty smile plastered to her face.

Otterstream lazed about in the camp, her thin, lithe frame stretched out near the thick underbrush that was the nursery. She enjoyed sunning herself there, where she got just the right amount of combined warmth and shade. It was never too hot, never too cold - at least for now. A flicker of thought swam through her mind for the briefest amount of time, reminding her it was leaf-fall, and the whether would continue to turn colder. She wouldn't be able to sun herself for that much longer, not without feeling the chill here. . .
Light green eyes snapped open as she heard movement around the camp. This early in the morning, she was one of the first warriors awake, beside those who were called for the dawn patrol. She could have stayed in her nest longer, but with all the muffled movement and half-asleep warriors whom she hardly had become acquainted with this early in her days as a warrior, she preferred to be out in the open, where it was spacious and warm - for now. Besides, her nest was by a couple of stuffy older she-cats, leaving her to only dream and wonder what it would be like to doze next to the stronger, more tasteful looking males in the camp.
Eveningpaw, her younger sister, caught her eye as she sauntered out of the apprentices den. They were practically identical in coloring, with the same smooth brown fur and breath-taking light green eyes. They had the curves that caused male eyes to wander in their direction and the gorgeous, unmistakeable faces that screamed beauty. Of course, Otterstream pretended she was unaware of her attractiveness, but in the back of her mind she knew it was there, to use to her advantage whenever she pleased.
She watched her sister as she made her way to a spot somewhere across from her and laid down, looking rather put off about something. Her eyes narrowed as the pretty brown cat scoffed, and Otterstream felt herself rise to her paws. And then another apprentice. . . Minkpaw? trotted out from the apprentice's den and after picking a piece of prey from the fresh kill pile, called a greeting to her sister.. Otterstream smirked, feeling the pull of amusement tug at her lips. Of course she'd have all the boys wrapped around her paws. Suddenly she didn't want to interfere in their conversation, mostly because she didn't know how to act around younger cats that were not her blood. But as she stopped to watch, Otterstream saw Eveningpaw's features grow dark with a haughty air, and a brow quirked in her direction. Forgetting herself, she padded lightly over to the two of them, her face becoming a mask of clueless-ness and her paws falling lightly, daintily, across the forest floor.
As she approached the two younger cats, she found herself veering off toward the tom and weaved around the back of Minkpaw, so close that static sparked between their fur. As she came up along the left side of his body, her tail found his and they twined together briefly. A half a heart beat passed between their exchange before Otterstream crossed the distance between her and Eveningpaw as if nothing had happened. She pranced up to her sister and swatted her nose with the tip of her tail. "You aren't chasing all these toms padding after you away, are you?" Otterstream purred in honeyed tones. She glanced at Eveningpaw over her shoulder, her body facing the opposite direction of her sister's. Her eyes touched on Minkpaw's frame for a second before she looked back at the pretty brown she-cat, but not before she gave the tom a sly wink. Otterstream knew nothing of Eveninpaw's nature and her general distasteful attitude toward toms. And if she did, she would pretend she did not. What sister of hers would be so put off by their attractive counterparts?

to say the tom was confused was to the least of his problems. he'd never been around the other apprentice before and frankly, her nature shocked him. he'd never been treated like that, not by another apprentice or tom or she-cat, and it stung that she should be the one to do so. she was younger than him, barely starting her training, while he stood proud at eleven moons. what the hell was she ever thinking? you don't treat someone like that, especially someone who is superior to you in age. minkpaw definitely knew better than to speak to a cat like that.
a retort hung off the edges of his tongue, poisonous and his saliva dripping with venom. fury bubbled in his stomach, her words churning in his mind - what? you have nothing to say you idiot? you don't have any way of defend your poor, stupid self? it's not a shock really, you are the inferior gender after all. how in hell did she think she was superior to him? it was too much for him, and he was ready to spit his words at her and make her regret saying anything to him.
heat covered his tail, a voice like honey spitting through his ears. startled again, he looked around wildly, trying to figure out who was insulting him now. green eyes locked onto green, a simple name registered in his mind; otterstream, eveningpaw's elder sister. he was still furious and ready to look away but his gaze was frozen when an uneasy notion passed across her features. did she just wink at him? rapid thoughts of mousepaw and how she felt raced in his mind and his teeth clamped down on his tongue, eyes narrowing.
minkpaw padding after her? the very thought made him want to laugh to the point of where he couldn't breathe. anger crossed out the enjoyment and his words suddenly resurfaced in his mind in a fit of bubbling fury again. he was prepared to weave his words in a careful motion, as to make his point clear and not give in to eveningpaw's rage, but the look on otterstream's infuriating face and her words didn't sit with him right and made him sickened.
"excuse me, otterstream," he spat her name out with everything he could gather that didn't equal in him cursing and yelling. "i have better things to do than chase after this pitiful excuse of a she-cat. you think you may be pretty, do you? well, news for you, there's definitely prettier heaps of crowfood i've seen. you're disgusting, toying with emotions and acting like you're on top of the world - don't even get me started on how you raised your sister."
mousepaw would be proud, he thought with hints of pride as he turned his icy glare to the other apprentice. "as for you - i don't have time to waste for such a measly cat. you're pathetic, really; do you honestly think one day you'll be supreme ruler of all? i'll just as soon turn into a bat as to watch that happen. you're piteous, rude, poignant and childish. you're such a waste of space that i can't even begin to comprehend. you're a wretched fiend, and i can't wait to see your world crumble before your very eyes as everyone around you begins to hate you even more than they do know."
a grueling smile now on his mind, minkpaw turned away from the she-cats without another word, satisfied with himself.

Eveningpaw saw her sister walk up and ignored her words, even so far as to begin ignoring her actual presence. The she cat kept her eyes locked on the tom ahead of her. She was just dying to hear what the stupid piece of fox dung had to say. The little brown apprentice listened to his words before letting out a hearty laugh, her whole body practically shaking from how hard her giggles were coming down on her. A wide smile broke her face as she nodded slowly, letting him finish his stupid little rant. As he turned away she felt a sort of victory - he was retreating leaving her the victor. " Ha - as if I would even want a tom as hideous and foolish as yourself to come after me. Don't make me laugh. Toms are useless and good for nothing. My interests lie in the female persuasion. A mangy, stupid apprentice like yourself couldn't even begin to please me. I wouldn't degrade myself enough to stoop down the many levels it would take to get to yours. You're pathetic. Nothing but a heaping pile of mouse dung. You are a fox hearted fool and obviously don't know what would be good for you and the clans. You'll see - one day you will bow down to me you mangy flea-bitten weakling."
Finally the little she cat turned her attention to her sister, her eyes much softer and almost pitying as she looked up at the bigger cat. She felt for her sister, the stupid she didn't seem to understand that toms weren't worth her time. She continued to flaunt her body around and go after every one of them. One day Eveningpaw would open her eyes to the good things in life and her sister would begin to know the joys that came with she cats. " Now Otterstream," her tone sickly sweet and practically oozing out of her mouth and into the air, dropping heavy like honey. " What is it that you need my lovely sister?"

Otterstream twisted her body around to sit beside Eveningpaw, green eyes watching her little sister curiously. Her gaze flicked to Minkpaw every now an again, and when it did the corners of her lips twitched into the faintest pull of a smile. On her second or third look, she did a double-take. Minkpaw's entire attitude changed, his eyes narrowed, his fur spiked. And when he addressed her with what other cats would take as venomous words, Otterstream watched the tom unblinkingly. Several heartbeats passed between his words to her before Otterstream let out tinkling laughter. She nudged Eveningpaw and flicked a tail in Minkpaw's direction. "He's so funny," she mock whispered, shyly glancing at the tabby once more just before he opened his mouth to speak again.
Minkpaw's words were notably more harsh toward Eveningpaw, but his tone and his meaning slipped easily over Otterstream's head. Instead, as the tom walked away, she turned to Eveningpaw once more and said rather loudly, "Well now he's a fiery one!" A light fit of giggles paired with her voice. "You must like them hot," Otterstream meowed suggestively, her words significantly lowered. But instead of responding to her, Eveningpaw completely ignored her and spat something just as nastily to the retreating Minkpaw. The only recognition Otterstream gave to the exchange was a flick of her ear.
Finally Eveningpaw's attention turned to her, and green eyes mirrored green. "Me?" Otterstream questioned humorously. "I don't need anything. . . but I think Minkpaw is waiting for you to follow him." She winked again, this time at her sister, motioning with a tilt of her jaw to follow him. Otterstream would never try to get between her sister and love.

Eveningpaw suppressed an eye roll in the direction of her sister; the older she cat really was daft and it wasn't exactly her fault. She was raised to believe all she was good for was her body, she thought that toms were actually useful and it was rather sad. She laid an empathetic tail on her sisters flank, "One day you will understand Otterstream. It's just, toms aren't my thing. I'd much rather be with a pretty little she cat and not have to deal with the ignorance that is toms." She smiled mirthlessly, shooting a glare after the older tom that had just stalked off. She almost felt bad for being rude to him. Wait what was she thinking - no she didn't. The idiot had it coming. If that oaf hadn't decided to barge his way into her quiet time then he wouldn't have been subjected to her speech. Eveningpaw looked over at her sister, one eyebrow raised as she waited for the sure exclamation that was to follow.
ooc; weeps this is little bcuz no muse and school.
