Mousepaw
"i know i'll keep [searching] after today"
text | "talking" | thoughts
| Sireneye has never been the easier mentor to get along with, and Mousepaw would be lying if she said that at least part of her excitement about her impending final assessment centered around no longer having to spend quite so much time with the surly tom cat but then again, Mousepaw would never say that sort of thing. Even though he is clipped and far from warm, his meticulous nature had ensured that he had given her an appropriate education and that she would be a good warrior. And she liked to think, perhaps ill foundedly, that her scarred ear might at least somewhat endear her mentor to her, given that she was fairly certain it was his lost eye that had made him so closed off. And what cat could blame him? Besides, of all the apprentices she shared a den with, it made sense that she had been apprenticed to the tom: quiet, unassuming and a bit of a preoccupied worry, so far from being brazen the way her sister was, what other young cat could have been paired with him and made it work?
Despite it all, Mousepaw couldn't help but be somewhat fond of her mentor. He was, after all, her teacher and that he was willing to do so said something about him. So, with a chilly morning's frost still on the ground and the sun barely up overhead, she sat up in her nest and, after a quick grooming, left the den to find him. There weren't many mornings of her training left and she was determined that they should be good ones. For all Sireneye's misfortunes in life, Mousepaw was not going to be one of them. Even if he didn't see it, she was determined to make him proud and prove to anyone who doubted that he was exactly what he was: an excellent warrior and clanmate.
"Good morning Sireneye," she greeted when she'd found him, quiet but polite as always. "Where are we off to today?"

The closest that Sireneye has gotten to a cat since his injury was his apprentice, Mousepaw. She worked hard to do her best and was always calm and quiet. She countered the older Sireneye very nicely and he was actually very proud of her for how far she had come. He remembered the day he was told he was to mentor her. The fear was almost a tangible things and his legs practically gave out underneath him. He was scared her would mess it up; Starclan had not sent him a single good thing in his life and he was worried this would just be another one of his failures. Another thing to make him resent life more. He had been laying in camp mulling over things, thoughts of the lessons that still needed to be done in order to get Mousepaw to become a warrior. There wasn't much left for them to do, she was becoming an amazing cat and he was so proud of her.
The sound of her voice caused his ears to perk up, yanked out of his thoughts and making him feel rather awkward. " Oh um, well I was thinking that we could do some hunting if you're up for it." His deep voice resonated out of his body, his one eye looking away from his apprentice. He wasn't the best at socializing and often times camp off as awkward and forced. It was something he'd tried to work on but never seemed to be able to fix.
ooc; wow this sucks i'm sorry for the wait and the suckiness.
