a blur of red and gray flashed through the camp as coyotepaw made a wild scramble to the large, thick tree standing on the edge of the camp. his green eyes sparkled with excitement. today was the day. today was the day he was going to get satyrnose, the timid medicine cat, to join his cause. he had tried many times before over the six moons of his life, but he was sure that he would be successful this time. after all, who could resist a cat such as him?
he thought he looked quite nice today. after slowing down in front of the two dens that were settled at the roots, he glanced over himself quickly. mud caked half his body, making him look like he had black legs instead of the rich, silvery auburn that he earned his name from. bits of leaves, fallen from mangrove trees he'd been climbing earlier in the morning, stuck in between his fur. he could swear he even saw a few twigs in there. a swipe of tongue across his teeth assured him that his mouth tasted like crowfood. he was perfect.
coyotepaw, satisfied with the his filth for the day, assumed he couldn't get much dirtier and stepped towards the smaller den with a grin across his maw. "satyrnose!" he called out, poking his head through the entrance with not an inch of shyness. after all, he needed to follow his destiny. no power was going to stop him! unless, of course, that power was opossumfang. the batty old she-cat intimidated him more than she should've.

Satyrnose had been working through the day, her paws moving to arrange everything into perfect stacks, cleaning out any mud in her storage room. Everything was nearly perfect, her coat shining bright, the long silver fur scented of herbs. Her curled ears flicking every so often, with the simple anticipation. That was when she heard the quick moving paws coming in her direction. Sure she knew it was one of two cats, Bearheart or Coyotepaw, but that didn't stop her fur from fluffing up, green eyes flashing bright and a started hiss breaking from her jaws.
"satyrnose!" Of course it was.. The startled Medicine cat padded her way towards the den entrance before stopping, her eyes skimming over Coyotepaw's body. "Coyotepaw you know full and well you have to be clean before coming in here." This was a daily struggle for the medicine cat to keep this rule enforced. Coyotepaw was never one to listen to her rules really but she refused to let him take more that two paw steps in her den without cleaning himself off. She let out a deep sigh.
"If you want to be a medicine cat so badly you can't be dragging mud everywhere. It'll just make things worse and it'll hurt those wounded that come here. Their wounds could get infected because of any mistake you make." Sure she knew he wanted to be her apprentice, she stalled for so long being she was so young. Really she didn't need one quite yet but the little cat was so overly determined to run under her. Since he was little the cat was coming and harassing her about how he was the destined one to be her apprentice. A tom with so much energy was meant to be a medicine cat? It was hard for her to believe from the start but what did she know? She was the cat having a flirting session with the clans deputy on a daily basis.

the lanky tom's ears perked in excitement when his eyes met satyrnose, who had a frown tightly drawn across her maw. from what, coyotepaw didn't know, but that didn't matter. the silver she-cat always seemed to be upset about something when he was around, but he never understood why. she was so odd! maybe she had a thorn in her paw this evening. it wouldn't be the first time.
"coyotepaw you know full and well you have to be clean before coming in here."
it was his turn to frown now. he tried so hard to look great to visit the clan's medicine cat, and she doesn't like it? "but," he began his protest, a pout forming on his features, "i like it this way." when he looked and smelled like absolute filth, most cats steered clear of him, especially his neat freak of a brother. whenever he walked past him, wolfpaw crinkled his nose in disgust and didn't even talk to him. it was great! plus, he didn't like the whole 'cleaning' thing. it just tasted gross.
however, satyrnose's next statement almost made him bounce. instead, he settled for vibrating in place like he was having some form of a seizure. "really? really, really, really?" his voice got higher at every word until he was practically yelling. not that he could help it, "if i clean up, i can be a medicine cat? i'll go get my mom!" there was certainly no other cat that could lick a cat cleaner than his mother. it must've had something to do with her affinity for toms, if catch his drift.

Satyrnose let out a soft laugh, getting to her paws she went towards the messy tom cat. She settled down before pulling him to her, taking the time to start cleaning his bright fur. "Now now Coyotepaw, lets not get in over our heads. I know you want to be a medicine cat but my question is, why?" With that said she went back to grooming the mud from his fur. In her time dealing with the little tom Satyrnose came to look at him as a little son rather than an annoying apprentice.
Sure she'd love to have him by her side as an apprentice but she was so young! Plus what would the clan think if she took him on at such an early age, everyone always harassed her about her time with Bearheart, she didn't need to give them more of a reason to look at her like a terrible medicine cat. They might think she was training him early so that she can drop her position. What kind of reputation would that give her? With not only all the clans but one of her closest friends, Foxwhisker. What would the other medicine cat think of her?
Shaking the thoughts away the curly eared cat smiled at the little tom. "Of course, you know being medicine cat isn't all fun and games right?"

| coyotepaw almost let out a groan when he felt the frettish she-cat's tongue on his fur. gosh, he felt like she wanted to be his mom sometimes, and he wasn't quite sure if he liked that. he couldn't even handle one mother. two might push him over the edge into insanity, and he didn't think that'd be a very good thing at all, on the most part. he supposed it could be fun just to see everyone else's reaction.
he sat relatively sullenly as satyrnose groomed him, knowing fully well the medicine cat could kick his sorry tail out if she so pleased. best to not rile the beast, he thought to himself. however, once satyrnose questioned him, he found himself perk up immediately. he was an extrovert, and he enjoyed talking more than breathing, truly.
"it's because i'm destined to, satyrnose." a 'duh' was well implied at the end of his sentence, as if he assumed everyone in the clan knew of his obvious future. "i have to be a medicine cat!" oh boy, now he was up on his long, lanky legs and bouncing excitedly as if that would somehow convince the silver she-cat at all. he wondered if he figured out how to fix her weird ears, she'd let him in. he always wondered how they got that odd, curling look to them.
he felt like groaning again when the she-cat prodded to know more, stating the obvious. "i know, i know, we'll be saving lives and stuff." isn't that going to be fun? way fun. he could imagine all the exciting things he could do with the power of healing. and so he voiced his thought, "hey, satyrnose, if i learned medicine, could i fix your ears?" he asked, in a (mostly) innocent manner.

Satyrnose let out an entertained laugh, noticing the annoyance on the young toms features. well now if he wouldn't come in here smelling like a dead rat I wouldn't have to do this.. She muttered in her head, letting him go when she was content with his look. Her bright eyes followed the tall cat as he moved about, seeming more excited than anything. it was true he had quite the mouth on him but that didn't bother Satyrnose. To be honest she enjoyed the company of the talkative little cat.
"Well little darling, just because you're destined to doesn't quite mean it will happen." She started off, her curled ears flicking as she went back to her storage room to adjust things, knowing he'd follow. "But.. I'll see what I can do. You seem to have the spirit for a job as such." Satyrnose grinned, looking over at him to watch his reaction, that is till she heard his last comment.
A bright and beautiful laugh, one not often heard from the silver molly made its way through her den. "Sweetie.. My ears are perfectly fine. Sure its not normal but they don't bother me and they don't need to be fixed. I do adore the offer though, but I think I'll stick with my odd ears."

| when satyrnose finally released him, coyotepaw wrinkled his nose in disgust. ugh. gross. most of the dirt and unruly curls were gone from his coat, a fact which he was not very pleased to discover. it was going to take hours playing in the marsh to get back his usual level of hygiene. but at least the she-cat was letting him stay.
"puh-lease," the tom scoffed at satyrnose's gentle statement, "being destined means it will happen. the process will just take longer than it should. although we don't have to do that." he gave the she-cat a sly little look, as if that expression alone would give the she-cat the underlying meaning of 'please please please let me be your apprentice'.
sure, it wasn't like coyotepaw didn't have a mentor already. speckledheart was alright, but she scared him a bit. perhaps it was because she was a very... tough she-cat, but he still couldn't bring himself to enjoy their training sessions. on the other hand, satyrnose's soft personality was almost welcoming, and he liked that, even if he tended to take advantage of it come time to time. but, really, how else was he going to force his way into being a medicine cat apprentice?
"but.. i'll see what i can do. you seem to have the spirit for a job as such."
for approximately a second, the tawny tom just froze in place, his eyes bulging and his mouthing going slack as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing. however, not a moment afterwards, he let out a high pitch screech, which was probably meant to be a happy sound but may have come off a bit strong, and leaped to his feet. "are you serious!? are you super serious? please, oh please." he was practically jogging around the den now with his tail held high. he was so thrilled at the moment that he wasn't sure he could stop. he hardly gave satyrnose more then a 'yeah yeah okay' when she laughed (which was like a bird singing, he noted) and defended her weird ears. he was too wired up for small talk. he paused for a moment to mew: "if you're just kidding, i'll cry. i really will. i taught myself how to do it on command."

Satyrnose always did find the little tom quite amusing when you asked him questions, he always found some way to defend himself and if anything he did whatever it took. Just another reason why she felt he would be right for her job. Yet sometimes she wondered, would he settle down enough to learn, be content as his den mates possibly got their warrior name before him, or just have the right idea and help others rather than harm. "Sweetheart I'm not lying to you, I wouldn't do such a thing. There's just some things I need to make sure of, you're a brilliant cat of course but you've been learning the ways of a warrior lately. Are you sure you can just settle down and live life mainly from the sidelines?" She asked, her yellow eyes watching his every move.
The silver molly let out a sigh, she was making the right choice yea? As far as she knew she was and if it wasn't... Well Starclan help her. She was young, not in need of an apprentice quite yet but he was so sure that this is where his was destined to be. How could she take that away from him? Her job was to help the cats of her clan, keep their lives going and make them happy, that included the little jumpy cat in front of her. "I'm putting a lot of trust into you right now Coyotepaw." Little did they both know this wouldn't be the last time she said these words to him.
